We actually had AHB in Maine from a generator shipped to a power plant
in Maine from Brazil! No big bad wolf involved. Most pests are here not
because of legal importation but illegal.

In today's world, sealed borders are porous. Canada outlawed Varroa and
our nasty bees crossed the border anyway. Shameful. At least my bees
were not involved.

Tracheal could have been here in the US scores of years before we
figured out what it was. It might have come across with the first bees
to come here. Like most diseases and pests, it takes a while to figure
out it is a disease or pest.

Even in all that, I have no problem with control of imports. Just it is
not a black or white fairy tale.
