I once saw an article in an old gleanings about a solar melter that rotated
during the day. It was mounted on a shaft, that fit inside a pipe, that was
mounted on a barrel filled with water. The shaft had a pin, that fit inside
a spiral slot, cut in the pipe from top to bottom. On the bottom of the
shaft was a float. The bottom of the barrel was fitted with a small faucet,
which was opened very slightly. As the water leaked out the faucet, the
water level dropped. The solar extractor rode the shaft down through the
pipe, on its float, following the sun throughout the day.
