To Mike in LA:

I made that conversion lots of years ago, and don't regret it.

I am seriously considering, and attempting, to change from deeps to medium
supers for everything. In the South, 1/2 way between Montgomery and Mobile,
we can usually winter over in a deep and a super. I am thinking of going to
three medium supers which would roughly translate to two deeps which I used
to run when living just north of Indianapolis. I really like the idea of
running all medium supers for everything. There would be total
standardization of equipment, lighter loads to lift, and just plain ease of
operation. I think where I am, if I go into the fall with the top super full
of honey and the middle one a mixture of honey and brood, I would have no
worries about starvation. The pollen seems to start being available no later
than late January and the past two years there has been pollen coming in all
year round. My problem now is getting the hives built up enough for the
early main flow.
