Dr. E. Jaycox recommended some time ago (he's now retired) that African
bees could also be kept in bee houses in urban areas. Some barrier
that prevents the guard bees at the entrance from getting to the
beekeeper-manipulator was the idea...sort of a back door entrance idea
to avoid overdefensiveness and problems with returning foragers at
the active entrance. I would agree that ventilation is a key issue
in the warm season; for bees and beekeepers!
