a friend asked about how to keep records on this project.


It doesn’t have to be fancy. Mainly, what you want is to note 

1) when the colony is founded (whether package, nuc or swarm).

2) the source of the bees, if known

3) any treatments applied, feed added, etc. (ie., if these things are done)

4) when and why the colony failed (queen-less, starved, mite crash, whatever)

5) no requeening or adding eggs and brood. this essentially changes or replaces the colony. brood could be removed to start other colonies, as that doesn’t really hurt the hive (any more than donating blood hurts a person).
