Thymovar requires two 3-4 week treatments with temperatures between 12 to
30 deg C.  In a lot of areas in Canada it would be tough to fit this in the
fall after the last honey pull.  Temperatures fall rapidly here in our
fall.  It can also put the bees off feed at a time when you are trying to
bulk them up.  While it is approved for use, I don't think it was being
used very widel.  When it was being used, it was often just a half
treatment followed by oxalic.  It is also about twice the price of MAQS.
The reduced efficacy of amitraz is being widely reported anecdotally.
