Does anybody (Peter Edwards maybe) know the distance apart that Apis mellifera mellifera, left to their own devices, space their combs? I am thinking centre lines rather than working space. Is it different in Am Ligustica, Carnica, Scutellata and others?

At Gormanston, I carefully measured the spacing of combs in a skep, only to find out afterwards that the beekeeper had inserted top bars with starter strips! Doh!

Chris
