I agree, the bug baffler products work great.  I usually just use the veil, but have a shirt and pants for when I am doing more than just opening it up to have a look inside.  The big advantage for me is that they also stop mosquitos, biting gnats, and black flies, while conventional bee veils have too big of a mesh to stop anything but bees.
