Hello,

Seeking references for the total annual
intake of nectar for an average size
production colony. And also the weight
of a gallon of nectar.

Seeley (1995) estimates that the average
annual requirements for a single wild
colony of bees is 120 kg (265 lbs) of
nectar.

I would suppose nectar weights slightly
more than water, but I do not know the
weight of a gallon of nectar, so I'll use
a gallon water weight.

265 divide by 8.34 equals an astounding
31.77 gallons of nectar.

Does anyone know the average surplus
for a production colony, and how many
pounds of nectar that would translate
to?

Thanks in advance
