>#2 Beekeeping
Sweet News... The second most popular hobby Americans intend on pursuing in 2024 is beekeeping. It's like being a guardian of a tiny, buzzing kingdom, where you get to don a cool suit and peek into the fascinating world of honeybees. It’s not just about getting your own delicious honey (though that’s a big plus!), it’s also about helping these little pollinators thrive, which in turn brightens up your garden. At its core, beekeeping involves the care and management of honeybee colonies, often in man-made hives. What makes it particularly appealing is the deep connection it fosters with the natural world, allowing hobbyists to play a direct role in supporting the health and productivity of these essential pollinators. The process of inspecting hives, managing bee health, and harvesting honey provides a hands-on experience that is both educational and therapeutic.

The source being an aquarium page makes beekeeping at #2 not surprising. However I find it illuminating that their description of the craft is well stated. Helping them thrive, care and management, and supporting the health and productivity is in fact the essence of beekeeping. No mention of treatment free, Darwinian, live and let die, or any of the numerous other approaches too many new beekeepers adopt before they have a grasp of what is involved in keeping bees.
I expect that a new aquarium enthusiast that thought buying a bowl of fish and letting them care for themselves would experience the same fate a new bee haver does with the same attitude.

Paul
