Chris, do you pull honey?
Yes I do, but later than most people.  I wait until the bees have reduced their brood nest and packed around it with winter stores. Then I reckon that everything above the queen excluder is mine. With my top bar hive, I take the surplus crop early in the Spring at willow/dandelion time. Then I know that what I am taking truly was surplus to the bees' own requirements.
