Ari Seppala example:

Excellent example Ari: for driving forces of organic beekeeping vs conventional beekeeping. The driving forces are consumers and economics. There is also rules govern the production system. I know of some organic certifying agencies that allow treatment with conventional miticides "harsh chemicals" if the bees life is under threats.

The question under discussion if I understand it is "Treatment vs non treatment". For sure, I would love to keep bees with no treatment or bees can survive with cultural methods for management of varroa and still make money to survive.

One thing to add, the beekeeping in Europe is different from North America. An average number of hives per commercial beekeeper in alberta for example 2200 hives. In europe is 500 hives (you can correct me in that). Honey sold in North America in drums for $1.60. In Europe most honey sold for higher prices from the farm gate.

This pattern of beekeeping influences the nature of the industry.
