after reading the lines below just wanted to write that formic acid gel 
has been in
use in Finland for more than 10 years.

It is one standard way to treat varroa

I don't know exactly what chemical they use for making the gel, but know 
that basic recipie come
from North America.

Packed in thick plastic bags.
Used by placing on frames and 3 -4 slits are made with a knife on upper 
side.
