As Juanese points out, USDA filed a patent on 2-heptanone in 2005.  
 
In 2006, Gloria  reported on her project, funded by both the Almond  Board 
of California and the California Beekeepers Association, on research with  
microencapsulated 2-Heptanone," the compound most effective against Varroa. 
It  occurs in various spices, cheese, fruits, and breads".
 
Odd that Vita bee didn't even mention this work in their recent  article.  
Its easy to find -  just Google 2-heptanone.
