what attributes were lost? I have used 3 deeps for ever, and raising my own queens, ended up with queens that work fine in this system.
Tim described its workings perfectly, the one thing I would add is with the extra room in the brood chamber's, the bees will store more pollen in the bottom brood chamber than running with fewer deeps.  I have never had to feed pollen or sub. in the spring because they have extra pollen and honey, normally my hives will be far ahead of beeks that I work with that run 2 deeps.  This year was the perfect example, we had the best locust flow anyone had ever seen, when comparing my honey collected with my buddy who has the two deeps, I collected over twice as much honey as he did in the spring, we share queens and are in the same area.
