Last summer on Facebook I asked the Bayer CropScience
company to comment on a Friends of the Earth report that
alledged: "Bee Toxic Pesticides Found in "Bee-Friendly"
Plants Sold at Garden Centers Nationwide."
http://libcloud.s3.amazonaws.com/93/88/f/3354/Gardeners-Beware-Report-11.pdf

Bayer's response was:

"We find that the recent announcement by the environmental group "Friends
of the Earth", in collaboration with alliedorganizations, falsely claims that
ornamental plants purchased by consumers are unsafe for honey bees.
This is a sensationalized report masquerading as a scientific study, the
purpose of which appears to mislead the public and garner support for this
group's anti-pesticide agenda. Although there are many things wrong with
this report, perhaps the most egregious is the use of residue analysis on
pollinator-irrelevant plant samples. Extensive research has shown that
neonicotinoidinsecticides are not responsible for honey bee colony decline,
which most experts attribute to multiple factors, including parasites,
diseases, nutritional deficiencies, beekeeping practices and loss of habitat.
