Does anyone know how to diagnose a HMF poisoning? or know of symptoms
common to bees fed toxic HFCS? I recently inspected an apiary that had
possibly been negatively impacted by toxic HFCS. A large number of his bees
died, and the rest look weak. He said that within 24 hours of feeding this
HFCS, his bees started experiencing negative effects of the sugar
supplement. I have read that bees with HMF poisoning typically have
dysentry, but that is the only diagnosis I could find. After inspections, I
found that the adult bees acted "queenless" and behaved quite abnormally.
Many of the bees wings were sticking up vertically, and many bees had
K-wing characteristics. Also, many dead bees found outside the hive had the
typically pesticide poisoning, proboscis extended characteristics.

I am curious if other folks have experience HMF poisoning, and what types
of characteristics they observed.

Thanks!
