>>I constantly hear newbees advised to feed, feed, feed their bees till

I have taken to color coding all the sugar syrup I feed my bees with either green or red food coloring.  In that way, I can usually track the placement of the feed I give the bees in the beehive.  So far, I can detect no adverse affects on the bees.  However I've not really been monitoring for adverse effects.  I have found that I can really trace where the bees are placing the syrup, and by the color, whether or not it's being blended with nectar they've been bringing in from the field.
