Re severe chalkbrood

I was in an apiary where I smelled an unopened hive that turned out to have the worst chalkbrood I ever saw. At least 50% dead brood. Smelled like a cross between stinky cheese and stinky socks. Many times I have picked up the AFB scent from several feet away, but chalkbrood just that once. Of course, chalkbrood presents visually with stuff on the landing board.
