"I have often noticed a deterioration in temper a few weeks before bees swarm, long before there are queen cells, so I assume that it is triggered by the decreasing queen substance available to them."


This year I noticed no difference in temperament between hives that eventually produced swarm cells, compared to those without...it was simply a matter of those that made swarm cells had older queens, and those that didn't had new queens.
