At least that’s what people are claiming it says. The problem is that the survey says nothing about the state of the colonies before feed was applied.

Exactly. The hives that weren't fed probably didn't need it, while the ones that were may have already been on the verge of starving. The correlation does not mean feeding caused death. Anyone who would derive that conclusion understands nothing.
