said to rub the leaves of a peach tree on the box and the bees would stay.

This is interesting, Bob.  When I tip prune my peach trees with my
fingertips, I can easily smell the strong aroma of benzaldehyde on my
fingers afterwards.  As you well know, Benz is normally a bee repellent.
I also have a peach that attracts swarms.
