Looks like the Indians really know how to "make lemonade"! They've turned the effects of an unregulated industry to their advantage.

An interesting discussion about Coca-Cola products that are made in India suggests, on the one hand, that contaminated and unregulated water being turned into Coke for sale in India produces a pesticide-laden product that farmers are successfully using on crops. They say Coke containing pesticides is cheaper and more effective as pest control on their crops than the pesticides. They further contend that the use of Coke protects the health of the soil over the use of pesticides.

This is repudiated by Snopes.com, which claims that it's just sugar that makes the soda a good pesticide. However, Snopes does not mention that Coke in India is not of the same quality as Coke in the USA, and that tests have shown Indian Coke is pesticide-laden whereas USA Coke is not.

Either way, it looks like spraying Coca-Cola on crops might be a good alternative to conventional pesticides. And for sure, honey bees won't mind drinking Coke...right??
