We used to catch 'em in a steel trap.   The trap was always attached (chained)
to a long pole.
 
If you can pick up the pole - with the trap and skunk on the other end - and
get in down into a large quantity of water - you'll know that the skunk is of
no more threat when the last stinkin' bubble rises.
 
Of course, my method does involve the death of the skunk.   I have absoulely
NO use for a live skunk.
