Ardrian was kind enough to help me with a swarm lure recipe some time ago.  He had mentioned during email exchange that the bees on the island easily succumbed from varroa due to the lack of variation, being decedents of only a few colonies.  

Yes, a good example of a population gone, but perhaps not applicable to most bee poulations in general.
