The July newsletter from Farm Credit Canada:

http://www.fcc-fac.ca/newsletters/en/express/articles/20130705_e.asp

has a couple of stories that may effect Canadian beekeepers.

"8. Canola Council issues scouting alert

by Allison Finnamore

The Canola Council of Canada is reporting high cabbage seedpod weevil numbers in some regions of southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan....."

Does this mean the weevils have developed immunity to neonics?

There is also a story about corn,

"5. Tightened corn season targeted

by Neil Billinger

Western Canada could become a major corn producing region if seed companies can develop shorter season varieties.

Monsanto will spend $100 million over the next decade on research to pursue a goal of eight to 10 million acres of corn by 2025....."

Article 9 titled: "Market Focus - USDA updates acreage and grain stocks data" , updates spring planting estimates for various

crops in the U.S. The USDA estimates 97.4 million acres of corn were planted in the U.S.A. this spring. I was surprised

to read, "Planted acreage, if realized, would be the highest since 1936. "
