Unfortunately this is probably our number one problem with "scientific facts." Way too frequently scientific facts become common knowledge and fact even when completely wrong. Ben Goldacre discuses this in his book "Bad Science." He shows what science is and how claims of it are misused. He spares no "scared cows." This is a must read for anyone truly interested in science and how claims of it are used.

Another book that show how science gets twisted is: "The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet" by Nina Teicholz. This true investigative journalist shows how the old computer term "GIGO" can be a serious scientific problem. "Garbage In, Garbage Out" - then we base the next study on garbage. Like Ben Goldacre, she shows the media involvement.

If you are a strong believer in what the media is feeding you, you will have trouble with both of these books.

Sorry about going off of the direct topic of bees, but the statement was on science as the public sees it. And the discussion is about science and bees.
