Strange no one has made the connection between these two, since "cures"
for AFB infected equipment has to be the ''Mother" of all urban legends.
"Chlorine bleach", "wax seals", "brisk scrubbing" "steam jennies", "lye
baths", the list is endless, about as effective as soapy water, and
constantly being reinvented by newbies who either won't (can't) learn
from the past or haven't bothered to check it out. ETO, radiation, wax
moths and the long term heating of melted wax, on the other hand, only
work under certain narrow constraints. Each "may" inactivate, kill or
destroy AFB spores under certain conditions, but then they also "may not"
outside of those narrow constraints. Then again there is always that
other urban beekeeping myth, that TM "cures" AFB.
