I've experimented a bit this year and used on swarms I caught after 5-6 days, no queen loss and perhaps a few dead bees like I normally see after a treatment in the fall.  Lots of dead mites at the nuc or hive body entrances. I also started using a meat injector to dribble the sugar syrup oxalic mixture which solved my problem of getting the mixture on the topbars a bit too often.  They seem to clean it off better in warmer weather if you do splash it by accident.
