I had this happen as well, when doing the same thing as far as drilling a
hole. Provap needs to be used as the bottom of the bottom box to be safe.
Drilling the whole risks this blow back, and destroying frames/comb/bees.

I made a board that clamps over the entrance,with a hole in the corner,
problem sovled
