For those interested, back in March The Honey Bee Advisory Committee met
with Bayer Chemical to discuss, among other things, issues they had with
some of the chemicals Bayer is selling. The report of the meeting was
published on Bee Culture's CATCH THE BUZZ
(http://home.ezezine.com/1636/1636-2009.03.26.10.08.archive.html), and
in Bee Culture magazine. Bayer has responded to the report submitted by
the beekeepers, and after review, EPA has posted it on their site at the
following address. If you have not read these documents yet, perhaps you
should. They are enlightening. Read Bayer's response here:

There are several documents on the page this address takes you to...look
for the pdf file with the title:

6/5/09 - Bayer Crop Science Response to National Honey Bee Advisory
Board Letter on Imidacloprid Registration Review

Within a similar vein, Canada approved yesterday Apivar, an amitraz
compound to control varroa mites. One warning on the registration
approval letter stated that:

"End users must be informed that various countries, including the U.S.,
do not have a MRL (maximum residue level) for amitraz in honey,
honeycomb, and beeswax, and that they assume the risk that use of Apivar
may effect export of their product."

This Bee-L letter, with additional information, will also be a BUZZ
report later today...
