Why not interrupt the reproductive cycle of the SHB externally? Cover the
ground perimeter of the hives with plastic sheeting or AstroTurf?  The SHB
larvae can crawl a good distance but 15 ft  might be a substantial deterrent
to in its life cycle





Great idea,  but beetle larve are not deterred by 15 feet.  Jamie Ellis will
tell you its several hundred feet.    Super dry ground  is a huge problem
for them.  They need damp ground to successfully pupate  so full sun in a
dry year helps.   Gaurdstar helps,  but in wet areas like I live its short
lived.
