Your missing the point, on several levels. What drives the AG economy is
more from less. Its how profits increase as well as productivity. For some
the motive is money per acre, for others its feeding the world. End result
is the same.

Your pointing to subsidies as a indicator of greed. If you should take the
time to really look at the farming industry, you realize greed is not the
driver. And fool knows you can make more in stocks than farming, and yet
the fools keep farming. Most farmers have quite literally Millions of
dollars tied up. That money in the market at 6% would make them more profit
than they normally earn farming. Farmers flat suck at math.....

While you may find those subsidies as a big issue, the truth is different.
First, the subsidies are presented by politicians. Most farmers just take
the opportunity. Would you leave a 5 dollar bill on the side walk? Doubt
it. So why should they turn their backs??
Second, it's a tiny percentage in most cases. Take our biggest guy here
in Clay county Il Darren Hout. Darren farms a little over 16k acres,
employs a think 9 full time and another 6 truckers. Is subsidy totally is
less than 4% of his gross.

While 400k seems a lot to you or I, when you spend 6 million a year on
input cost alone its not such a big chunk.

For the record I don't support the subsidies either, but if you think its
what drives these guys, you don't know any real farmers. Yup there are a
few scammers out there. Most involve grazing and BLM.
