IMO, like all such prescriptions, checkerboarding is too formulaic,
especially for the novice crowd at whom the articles are aimed, and the
procedure could do real damage to a colony if practised without
understanding and proper timing.

Sadly, many in that that group would probably not recognize the harm
done and see only that checkerboarding prevented swarming.

I always find it interesting which authors show up on BEE-L and are
willing to defend their ideas -- and change or qualify them if a 
convincing argument is made or evidence produced.

Even more interesting is the long roster of those popular writers who 
can't or won't stand the heat.
