Let's put it this way:
If you were in a tough fix in your bee management, who would you prefer to
call for advice?

The problem is that most commercial beekeepers have limited time or
patience to help all the newbees and hobbyists.  So the master beekeepers
serve a valuable function.  It is they who should go out and get hands on
experience from the commercial guys, so that they can pass that valuable
knowledge on.

An apt analogy is when I studied martial arts for many years.  People don't
realize that when you finally earn a black belt (usually after about 8
years of constant practice) that that degree only earns you the right to
finally be considered to be a serious student by the masters, who then are
willing to start teaching you the important stuff.
