I have seen it once.  The queen was a late season supercedure.  She looked like a mated queen wth good size.  When she started laying it was on the drone frame.  Thete were several empty worker cell frames adjacent.  I never saw eggs or brood in the worker comb.  The population dwindled all fall and winter, but there were live bees come spring.  She layed a few eggs in early spring, but all were on the drone frame, before dieing.
