As I understand it the University of Aberdeen and Beelogics were working on RNAi for Varroa (Aberdeen) and IAPV (Beelogics) at the same time around 2009.  Beelogics/Monsanto subsequently developed an interest in Varroa too ... as far as I know.  Vita came on board later, interested in the commercialisation possibilities.
