I can't offer numbers, but wonder if you've seen this documentary series on a commercial skep operation in Germany (I think).

Seven from memory, and I think the one linked deals with harvest and colony selection

Wonderful, fascinating series that often left us slackjawed (and sometimes aghast) at how nearly opposite the management was to our own.

IMO not a nice way to 'keep' bees
