I am not at all plugged into the politics of NYS beekeeping, although all
my hives are in the state (approx. 200) and I have many friends who are
hobbyists and sideliners, and a few friends who are truly commercial
beekeepers. I attended the Friday portion of the November meeting, which
is my normal routine.

I did have a brief hint of the politics before the meeting, but it came
from a person with about 50 hives who is somewhat of a windbag, and I chose
to ignore the commentary and did not ask others.

After the elections I inquired about the meeting preparations re. what I
will call 'the takeover', and I have to say I am impressed (not favorably)
at the time and effectiveness of 'the gang'. In all fairness, I also have
to admit that the attempts to legislate honey definitions and related
matters were ill conceived and demonstrated an incredible amount of naivety
on the part of the individuals responsible. I said so when I
discovered the tip of the iceberg some 7-10 days before the meeting.

We all know about 'the takeover'...but where in the heck did the
elimination of the right to vote by proxy come from? I didn't hear a word
of opposition to this, nor any discussion of how this came about. I can
understand the former Board and Officers being taken by surprise by 'the
takeover', but why was the membership not told of the ramifications of the
change regarding the right to vote by proxy?
