It is easy to tell that beekeepers in the Northern hemisphere are snug
in their houses and at out of the bee yards for a bit.

A question that has been eating at me for a while: We are generally
taught that most beekeeping operations will lose hives every year, and
that to be sustainable the losses should be made up with nucs and
splits. My question goes to the testing of survivability of specific
stock -- to what extent is does it invalidate a study to replace or make
up losses with locally open mated stock descended maternally from the
studied stock?
