?Hello All,
Jimmy Odom sent a direct email concerning his jenter system. Jimmy said he
was not sure why his replies were not posted.
I only post so those following his question and my reply can understand what
happened.
Jimmy said when he checked what I suggested as a *possible* reason for his
finding larva in cells on his second attempt *exactly* the age as the larva
would be *if* from his first attempt to be larva from eggs laid in the
indentions between the cell plugs.
We are all on here to learn and share.
Jimmy says he is a lurker as are many on the list.
Almost always prolific queens when caged in a Jenter system will not only
fill the plugs but lay eggs in most of the cell like indentions between the
plugs.
We remove the plugs for use as the Jenter directions say and then with a
grafting tool (cheap Chinese tool my preference) remove the eggs /larva
between the plugs and place in other cups to also use as queens.
With the Jenter system it is also important to let the bees clean the plugs
between queen batches ( as per instructions).
The instructions do not mention the eggs laid in the indentions but they are
easy to see and graft and almost doubles the cells you can graft.
Thanks to Jimmy for his question and his reply to me as I was beginning to
think my response upset Jimmy.
We are all in the craft of beekeeping together. The numbers of the craft of
beekeeping still get smaller each year.
Ask those questions!
BEE-L has plenty of beekeepers willing to tackle the tough questions and
plenty of beekeepers new to our list waiting for the opportunity to answer a
question which they were asking older beekeepers a couple short years ago.
Happy Beekeeping!
Sincerely,
Bob Harrison
