> I am not saying we have a smoking gun but we can't say it's a fact GMOs are safe when there are scientific studies to the contrary.

I never said they were always safe or inherently safe. Any new technology is full of risks, and even ordinary agriculture and ordinary breeding is full of risks.

What these folks are saying is that genetic engineering is inherently unsafe. That's like saying electricity is inherently unsafe. Electricity can kill you in a fraction of a second and yet we live our whole lives surrounded by it.

There is a large proportion of the population that thinks that pesticides are unsafe, that GM crops are unsafe, etc. There is also a bunch of folks ready to sell them what they want. Is there some reason why we can't coexist?

Are they so convinced of their correctness that they can't sleep at night until they have converted the world over to their ideology? Don't you see anything the matter with making a style of gardening into a religious crusade?
