A lot of hobby beekeepers buy marked queens.  If removing ferals in a more urban environment, I would expect to see at least a few marked queens in the recently escaped swarms if the majority are coming from managed hives.  This has been a big swarm year here and I know of quite a number of managed hives with marked queens that swarmed.
