For those who face attempts to impose regulations limiting beekeeping based
upon this sort of alarmist stuff, you can save a copy of this, a document
that has been said to have been helpful in defusing overly restrictive
"regulatory efforts" :

"Oh, Death Where Is Thy Sting?" Bee Culture, 2005
http://bee-quick.com/reprints/stingdeath.pdf

As a point of interest, the data on actual bee-sting events vs wasp/hornet
would be trackable, as emergency room staff tend to notice things like
stingers, and remove them from victims. It follows that if there are no
stingers, the insect was not a honey bee. No one reports or tracks this
factoid, but the near 100% digitization of emergency room records makes this
a pretty easy thing to "go count", as the data on stingers would not seem to
be confidential HIPPA restricted data.
