 Greg, my land-grant ag university, and probably yours, publishes a pest control handbook with a section on bee poisoning.  Studying it will reveal a number of pesticides which, when sprayed during late and early hours, and evenings, lose their honeybee toxicity before the bees fly.  Malathion serves this regimen very well.  Your description seems to follow this tactic.   Dan
