Charles' example is what I would expect from the 2 or 2 rule...
Move 1/4 mile and the forgers go back, move back and there are some bees that had orientated to the new spot that end up there.. figger the amount of new bees taking a orientation per day is some what close to the number of eggs laid a day.

If some one wanted to test the theory that the bees don't re orientate after a move and they fly off and are lost, Could you not use a hive scale instead of a bi directional counter? Move a large hive 15', put a single in its place with the queen, a frame of open brood and the rest empty. Move to a new spot 5 miles or more away, and see what the weight loss is like after a day of flight activity.
