I'm finding that I like keeping one drone trap frame in each hive all year
long.  Clearly, bees will always create a percentage of drone cells in any
hive (provided conditions are right).  So why do we try to give them only
worker foundation?

By simply giving them one frame in which to build their desired drone comb,
the beekeeper can then manage that drone brood if desired, and the rest of
your  brood frames don't get reworked into patches of drone cells.
