It is getting to about time I get an order ready if I am going to replace
queens next spring. It is getting expensive replacing queens, specially if
I don't need to each year.

Relative longevity is a useful quality in bees. You don't need as much brood if the bees live and forage longer. How are you going to select for this if you requeen every year? The commercial queen breeder certainly won't! It is also worth selecting for supersedure rather than swarming tendencies as this can save you work and worry.
