It is a bit of a stretch to imagine 2 seperate catastrophic unreleated diseases
The symptoms may be a little bit variable, the virus may mutate into different forms

If it is the same as earlier, historic dwindling then at that time there were no mites,
so mites only help it spread more easily (???  was it the same ???)
