BlankFound discussion of brood chamber thermo dynamics interesting. By coincidence have been moving empty drone brood frames to side walls at end of season to discourage drone production before I am able to get to colonies in spring when they are moved closer to the cluster and I am pretty confident I can make it back in time to remove brood. I use two frames for drones in my three medium setup so I have an empty on each wall in either the top or center box. Never entered my mind of helping the insulation characteristics.
